About this Item: Spiral/Comb. Condition: New. No Jacket. Limited Edition Reprint. Early days in Manitowoc County, WI, are recalled in a mix of history, biographies and trivia in this NEW 33-page 8 1/2" x 11" spiral-bound booklet, photocopied single-sided on 60 # opaque paper. The front cover is a parchtex card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. The information comes from a rare 1881 book, entitled History of Northern Wisconsin. We've enlarged the area on a map from the original book, and included it along with two other maps of historic interest. Manitowoc County is located north of Milwaukee on Lake Michigan. Communities currently listed for this area by the National Association of Counties include: Branch, Cato, Centerville, Cleveland, Collins, Cooperstown, Eaton, Francis Creek, Franklin, Gibson, Kellnersville, Kiel (part), Kossuth, Liberty, Manitowoc (County Seat), Manitowoc Rapids, Maple Grove, Maribel, Meeme, Mishicot, Newton, Reedsville, Rockland, Saint azianz, Schleswig, Tisch Mills, Two Creeks, Two Rivers, Valders, Whitelaw. About this Item: Brepols Publishers 0, Versand an Institutionen auch gegen Rechnung. Hardcover. Condition: Verlagsfrisch New copy. Versand an Institutionen auch gegen Rechnung (illustrator). Verlagsfrisch New copy Medieval Identities: Socio-Cultural Spaces (MISCS 3) The Performance of Christian and Pagan Storyworlds Non-Canonical Chapters of the History of Nordic Medieval Literature L. B. Mortensen, T. M.S. Lehtonen (eds.) X+448 p., 20 b/w ill., 6 b/w line art, 156 x 234 mm, 2013 ISBN: 978-2-503-54236-2 Languages: English, Latin Hardback The publication is available. Retail price: EUR 100,00 The present volume deals with Nordic medieval texts that are overlooked in traditional, language-based narratives and capitalize on the performance turn in cultural studies. The present collection explores a hitherto understudied body of Nordic medieval literature which, although overlooked in traditional, language-based narratives, was in fact crucial in shaping social and religious identities. By drawing on the 'performance turn' in cultural studies, the volume identifies a number of minor and peripheral literary forms and texts that had a vital connection to ritual and ritualized speech. These neglected traditions therefore offer an alternative insight into Nordic literary life and the sets of cultural expression, or storyworlds, underlying Nordic culture. The collected studies explore different aspects of verbal performances as a primary vehicle for the Nordic storyworlds, with a preference for the Christian over the pagan traditions. Emphasis is placed on Latin, Old Norse, and Finnish traditions that were retold and reproduced over time. These 'living' literary forms highlight the importance of non-canonical texts for the interpretation of contact between the peripheries and centres of Nordic culture. Through the focus on the interaction between Latin and the vernacular, between eastern Baltic and western Latin influences, and between ritual and speech in religious practice, this collection demonstrates the importance of 'minor' texts for the re-construction of medieval Nordic culture and history.
