Value is added by changing their form colour and other such methods to increase the shelf life of perishables. Hence there is a great scope to extend requisite technical know how to agro based industrial units for the production of value added food products. Though with the effort of Ministry of Food Processing Industry the growth of this sector is accelerated however there is need to discuss and sort out various related issues amongst people of various categories to increase level of value addition and improve the quality of value added food products for domestic market as well as export. 220 pp. Seller Inventory # 55364

Advertising to twenty first century children/Milan Agnihotri. Consumer Movement started from the US and later spread to other European countries such as UK The Netherlands Norway Ireland Germany and France. Subsequently it spread to the Asian countries including Japan India and Malaysia. With the advent of competition in the market the movement gained momentum to emerge as a powerful weapon in the hands of consumers. Nevertheless consumers especially in the developing countries still need protection because they are disorganized and individually they have a very weak bargaining power. Many of them are illiterate ignorant and usually lack information to make intelligent purchases. Often they are not in a position to protect their interests while dealing with fully organized united and well informed professional sellers. Historically consumers in India remained as highly neglected and ill treated lots because markets for most essential products and services were sellers markets allowing the manufacturers and traders to keep their one up position vis a vis buyers. The plethora of Consumer Protection Laws has turned out to be a close preserve of the bureaucracy. The legal armory in this regard consists of about thirty laws meant for protecting the consumer directly or indirectly besides the statutory orders that can be enforced under the rule making power of the government at all levels. Yet the kind of protection the gullible consumer is in need of is illusive. This was precisely the reason which prompted us to organize a National Seminar on Consumer Movement in India Strategies for Peoples Involvement at the G.H. Patel Post graduate Institute of Business Management of the Sardar Patel University Vallabh Vidyanagar. The seminar was funded by the UGC under the Departmental Research Support (DRS) Scheme. The papers presented at the Seminar related to four themes 1. Consumer Rights Global v/s Indian Perspectives. 2. Violation of Consumer Rights and Remedial Measures under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA). 3. Strategies for Creating Awareness and Peoples Involvement. 4. Other related issues (advertising ethics environment etc.). The book is a humble attempt to fill in the gap for good reference material on Consumer Movement in India and abroad. 224 pp. Seller Inventory # 66011

About this Item: New India Publishing Agency, 2013. Hardcover. Condition: New. Climatic variations often tend to have adverse effect on the yield and production of crops. Efforts have, therefore, been on for harnessing this natural resource through artificial means for increasing crop productivity. One such technology is protected cultivation. This technique is well adopted in Europe and USA and now China and Japan are leading in controlled sphere production of horticultural crops. In India, the technology is making breakthrough in Karnataka and Maharashtra in protected cultivation of pepper, tomato, cucumber, muskmelon, baby corn etc. Precision farming is defined as the cultivation by adopting technologies which give maximum precision in production of a superior crop with a desired yield levels and quality at competitive production. These include use of genetically modified crop varieties, micropropagation, integrated nutrient, water and pest managements, protected cultivation, organic farming, hi-tech horticulture, and post harvest technology. Post-harvest sector needs lot of precision. Peels, rags, etc. go waste. Many times, peels being rich in polyphenols, colouring pigment, nutrients etc are richer in antioxidant than what we actually eat. Here, we need precision. Precision in management, precision in product diversification, precision in value addition are much sought after aspect. Contents Foreword Preface List of Contributors 1.
