About this Item: CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS, United Kingdom, 2010. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Thomas K. Arnold's Practical Introduction to Latin Prose Composition was first published in 1839, and was later edited and revised by George Granville Bradley (1821-1903) of University College, Oxford. This graduated and systematic approach to elements of Latin grammar and syntax has been the reference of choice for both teachers and students ever since, and has been revised, updated and redesigned several times. The book reissued here is a companion volume, first published by Bradley in 1881, which contains answers to all the exercises in Arnold's classic textbook. Long out of print, the Key provides model Latin solutions to all the exercises, as well as pedagogical footnotes and cross-references. A valuable resource for all instructors who use Bradley's Arnold, it will also be helpful to students wishing to write more accurately in Latin. Seller Inventory # AAV9781108012355

About this Item: CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS, United Kingdom, 2010. Paperback. Condition: New. Reissue, Bilingual. Language: English. Brand new Book. Thomas Kerchever Arnold's Practical Introduction to Greek Prose Composition first appeared in 1838 and was reprinted in several editions due to popular demand, being adopted as a textbook in leading public schools. Ordained as a priest in 1827 after graduating from Trinity College, Cambridge in 1821, Arnold had studied both theology and classics, and wrote prolifically on both subjects. His first school textbook was published in 1836 and others followed steadily until his death in 1853. One of the chief merits of Arnold's classical publications was his use of contemporary works of German scholarship, to which he readily acknowledged his debt. He produced, alongside Latin and Greek textbooks, grammars of English, French, German, Italian, and Hebrew, and editions of many Greek and Latin authors. This introduction was designed to provide students with the basic tools with which to construct sentences and includes exercises on syntax and a vocabulary index. Seller Inventory # AAV9781108011426

About this Item: CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS, United Kingdom, 2010. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Henry John Roby (1830-1915) was a Cambridge-educated classicist whose influential career included periods as a schoolmaster, professor of Roman law, businessman, educational reformer and Member of Parliament. Elementary Latin Grammar (1862) is a complete, concise introduction to the Latin language. Written for classroom use, it presents essential grammatical constructions in the clearest possible manner, using ample material from the classical authors as demonstrations of basic principles. The book guides the reader through noun and adjective declensions and the full array of verb conjugations before turning to prosody and syntax, where Roby's innovations in Latin instruction are most evident. Simple, direct, and based upon examples including texts by Livy and Cicero, the book shows students how to parse basic sentences while also introducing them to more subtle and complex constructions. It remains a useful resource for teachers of Latin, and a fascinating document in the history of education. Seller Inventory # AAV9781108011211

About this Item: CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS, United Kingdom, 2011. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. This book provides a general introduction to the grammar and syntax of Hellenistic, or New Testament, Greek. With twenty-four chapters, it is suitable for two-semester courses. Each lesson is structured around equipping students to read passages drawn directly from the Greek New Testament. In addition to the traditional Erasmian system, students are offered the option of using a historical Greek system of pronunciation similar to that used in early Christian preaching and prayer. The book includes extensive reference tools, including paradigms for memorization, grammatical appendices and illustrations. The text is accompanied by a website that offers a workbook of passages for translation. Each chapter of the grammar concludes with a vocabulary list of Greek terms that appear in that lesson's assigned passage for translation, found in the online workbook. Audio recordings of all vocabulary words and translation passages, using the historical Greek system of pronunciation, are provided online. Seller Inventory # AAA9780521177023
