About this Item: Books LLC, Wiki Series, United States, 2013. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pages: 27. Chapters: SIG Sauer P226, SIG SG 550, SIG Sauer P220, Brugger & Thomet APR, SIG Sauer P250, SIG SG 510, SIG SG 540, SIG P210, SIG Sauer Pro series, Brugger & Thomet MP9, SIG MG 710-3, SIG Sauer P230, Solothurn S-18/1000, SIG Sauer P239, Brugger & Thomet GL-06, SIG-Sauer SSG 2000, SIG Sauer P238, SIG SG 530, SIG MG 50, Sturmgewehr 52, SIG 310, Tuma MTE 224 VA. Excerpt: The SIG P226 is a full-sized, service-type pistol made by SIG Sauer. It is chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and .22 Long Rifle. It is essentially the same basic design of the SIG P220, but developed to use higher capacity, staggered-column magazines in place of the single-column magazines of the P220. The P226 itself has spawned further sub-variants; the P228 and P229 are both compact versions of the staggered-column P226 design. The SIG Sauer P226 and its variants are in service with numerous law enforcement and military organizations worldwide. The P226 was designed for entry into the XM9 Service Pistol Trials (see also Joint Service Small Arms Program), which were held by the US Army in 1984 on behalf of the US armed forces to find a replacement for the M1911A1. Only the Beretta 92F and the SIG P226 satisfactorily completed the trials. According to a GAO report, Beretta was awarded the M9 contract for the 92F due to better durability during endurance testing and a lower total package price. The P226 cost less per pistol than the 92F, but SIG's package price with magazines and spare parts was higher than Beretta's. The Navy SEALs, however, chose to adopt the P226 later. Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft is a Swiss company and Swiss law severely restricts the export of firearms. Consequently, SIG entered into an agreement with German gun manufacturer (and eventual owner) J.P. Sauer & Sohn to facilitate an export market for their produ. Seller Inventory # LIE9781233159758

About this Item: Skyhorse Publishing, United States, 2018. Hardback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. The distinctive look of the Luger and its role in German military history make it the world's most famous handgun. In Luger, renowned gun expert John Walter traces the history of this semiautomatic pistol from an early design by Hugo Borchardt in the 1890s through its use in the trenches of the First World War to the final days of the Third Reich in WWII.Other books on the Parabellum-Pistole, as the Luger was also known, focus strictly on narrow subjects like manufacturing details or accessories. While still offering the technical details to satisfy the collector, Walter provides a comprehensive narrative history. Readers will learn of the initial collaboration between Borchardt and Georg J. Luger, who patented the design in 1898. Following initial adoption by the Swiss Army, design refinements convinced the Imperial German Navy to order the sidearm, while the US Army passed on it following field trials in favor of the Colt. Production ramped up for World War I and the gun became a prized trophy for Allied soldiers in both that conflict and World War II. (German soldiers, aware of their desirability, even used them as bait for booby traps.)Today, it is still desired by collectors both for its unique design and for its connection to the history of Nazi Germany, and Luger: The Story of the World's Most Famous Handgun tells how it came to be. Excerpt: The FN 5.7x28mm is a small-caliber, high-velocity cartridge designed and manufactured by FN Herstal in Belgium. It is a bottlenecked centerfire cartridge that is somewhat similar to the .22 Hornet or .22 K-Hornet. The 5.7x28mm was developed in conjunction with the FN P90 personal defense weapon (PDW) and FN Five-seven pistol, in response to NATO requests for a replacement for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. In 2002 and 2003, NATO conducted a series of tests with the intention of standardizing a PDW cartridge as a replacement for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. The tests compared the relative merits of the 5.7x28mm cartridge and the 4.6x30mm cartridge, which was created by Heckler & Koch as a competitor to the 5.7x28mm. The NATO group subsequently recommended the 5.7x28mm cartridge, citing superior performance. Seller Inventory # LIE9781155223117

Excerpt: The .460 Weatherby Magnum is a belted, bottlenecked rifle cartridge, developed by Roy Weatherby in 1957. The cartridge is based on the .378 Weatherby Magnum necked up to accept the .458-inch (11.6 mm) bullet. The original .378 Weatherby Magnum parent case was inspired by the .416 Rigby. The .460 Weatherby Magnum was designed as an African dangerous game rifle cartridge for the hunting of heavy, thick skinned dangerous game. The cartridge is billed as the most powerful commercial sporting rifle cartridge available. The .460 Weatherby Magnum like the rest of the Weatherby line of cartridges is capable of launching a bullet at velocities much higher than its competition, and in doing so it generates higher levels of energy. The .460 Weatherby attempts to provide the ultimate level of insurance against dangerous game. Few cartridges come close to offering the hunter the level of performance offered by the Weatherby Magnum. The .460 Weatherby Magnum is the world's most powerful commercially available sporting cartridge. The .460 will launch a 500-grain (32 g) bullet at a chronographed velocity of 2,700 ft/s (820 m/s) from a 26-inch (660 mm) barrel, measuring 8,100 ft.lbf (11,000 J) of muzzle energy. Prior to the arrival of the .460 Weatherby Magnum on the hunting scene, the .600 Nitro Express had been considered to be the most powerful cartridge in terms of energy. Roy Weatherby had expected that the .378 Weatherby Magnum to make some headway in the African continent but believed that his cartridge was being bypassed for low velocity, big bore cartridges by professional hunters whom he felt were resistant to change. Furthermore, new regulations prohibiting the hunting of heavy, thick skinned, dangerous game with sub-.40 caliber (10.16 mm) cartridges were being enacted in some African countries. These regulations would essentially ban the use of all previous Weatherby cartridges for the hunting of elephant, African Cape buffalo and rhinoceros. In response to these factors. About this Item: Collector Grade Publications, 2008. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 340 pages. Over 450 illustrations. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Very detailed and comprehensive. "This book presents a comprehensive chronology of handgun development and production at the famous armsmakers Mauser-Werke of Oberndorf, Germany from 1877 through to the end of the French occupation period which followed WWII. It is well known that Mauser manufactured a number of pistols of the firm's own design. These included the locked-breech, self-loading C96, blowback pocket pistols, models of 1910, 1914, 1910/34, 1914/34 and 1934, two versions of the WTP "vest pocket" pistol, and the double-action HSc pistols. Mauser also manufactured several handguns which had been designed elsewhere, including Reichsrevolvers, Parabellum (Luger) pistols, including lange Pistolen 08 ("artillery" Lugers) for Persia and Siam, and versions fitted with 120mm barrels for the Swiss and for Swedish trials in 1938, plus many P38s during World War II. In addition, a great many other pistol models were developed in the Mauser V-Abt (the Experimental Department) which for various reasons were produced as prototypes only or in extremely limited quantities." An important book for collectors and historians. BOOK IS NOW OUT OF PRINT. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HARD COVERS OF THIS COPY WERE BOUND ON UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWORDS OTHERWISE THIS IS A NEW COPY.
