About this Item: Independently Published, United States, 2020. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. BHAGWAD GITA is the Divine song of Sri Krishna. It was told to the confused and depressed warrior Arjuna at the epicenter of the battlefield. But even after thousands of years, it is a timeless knowledge and an ideal code of conduct. This book is a devotional attempt to bring holy Gita in the faster read version so that the new reader can get attracted to it. After reading Bhagwad Gita, different people have come out with different interpretations as per their understanding. Ultimately the philosophy of Lord Krishna helps us to build self-confidence and to face critical situations with courage. Krishna had tried all options to avoid the great war of Mahabharata. But there was no breakthrough. Duryodhana had rejected every solution offered by Krishna. There was only one way forward to settle the dispute between Dharma (Righteousness) and Adharma and that was to fight a war. Kings and their armies from all over India participated in this destructive war and fought for either Pandavas or Kauravas. On the very first day on the battlefield, when Arjuna asked Krishna to show him who all are fighting against Pandavas on Kurukshetra, Krishna took the chariot in front of Bhishma and Drona. Krishna could have easily taken the Arjuna in front of Duryodhana or Karna, so that Arjun would have started the war as in the fury of revenge. But probably Krishna wanted to confuse Arjuna and same thing happened. When Arjuna saw his near and dear ones he got depressed, lost his energy, and sat helplessly on the ground. He threw away his favorite bow Gandiva and told Sri Krishna. "I am not going to fight !" Lakhs of soldiers on both sides were waiting for the sound of the conch (Shankh), marking start of the war, but one of the greatest warriors on the earth was unwilling to lift his bow. Arjuna lost his interest to win any kingdom, power, or wealth at the cost of his brothers, relatives, teachers, and friends. On this extraordinary backdrop at the epicenter of the battlefield, the great philosophy of Bhagwad Gita emerged from the mouth of Shri Krishna. Gita, the Divine song of God is told not just to motivate Arjuna to fight the war, but it is the supreme knowledge that Krishna passed on to his friend and devotee. This timeless philosophy unfolds the meaning of life and teaches us how to attain liberation. By the grace of Lord Krishna, I am happy to present this simple, fast read format of His holy preaching. About this Item: Notion Press, Inc., United States, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Language: English. Brand new Book. A must-read for Dev Anand fans and students of film history "A broken nose sometimes makes a great boxer," said the evergreen Bollywood star Dev Anand after his movie Ishq Ishq Ishq did not work at the box office. In his sixty-five years of unchallenged dominance as the most-loved Hindi film star, Dev Anand gave us several memorable hits like Guide, Taxi Driver, Hum Dono, Johny Mera Naam, and Hare Rama Hare Krishna. He was not only an exceptionally handsome and stylish hero. His 'man of the future' philosophy is worth emulating by persons of all generations. He neither celebrated his successes nor lamented over his failures. A Karma Yogi, in the true sense of the term, he produced, directed, and acted in a lead role in a movie at the age of eighty-eight, which is without parallel in the history of Bollywood. The book attempts to analyse why his philosophy of life is a source of inspiration for all. It also gives a detailed filmography from Hum Ek Hain to Charge Sheet, with a separate chapter on Guide, and a special write-up on his genius brother Vijay Anand. Seller Inventory # APC9781948032544

About this Item: D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd., New Delhi, 2014. Softcover. Condition: New. First edition. Vidyapati (c. 1352‚ "1448), called second Jayadeva in his lifetime, is immersed, charged and inspired by the love of Radha and Krishna. He wrote emotionally-intensive love songs in Maithili, for the queens of Shiva Simha, his patron, and the common folk. Though drawn inspiration from Jayadeva, more than him, Vidyapati presents in his poetry a rare, tender and sensitive understanding of Radha‚ s psyche. In his love songs Radha, not Krishna, is in the centre stage and through his nayika Vidyapati is reaching out to each and every woman in Mithila. Vidyapati presents his songs from a woman‚ s heart, and describes his nayika‚ s slowly awakening youth, her sensuous beauty, her coyish charm, her na√ ve innocence, her surrender to love and her anguish on being neglected. She is invariably sensual, spiritual, physical and emotional. Though she did not inspire painters of the time, she ruled the hearts of the people of Mithila. Vidyapati‚ s love songs are written in honeyed words and are sung with mellifluous notes in homes, fields, chowks and havelis, across eastern India. And thus he still rules their heart. This portfolio, based on the ten love songs of Vidyapati, presents lovely paintings on the varied love moods of Radha, the love queen. In doing so, different artists have displayed their dexterity in Jaipur, Caurapancashika, late Mughal, Manaku, Kishangarh, Jain, Kangra and Basohli styles. Printed Pages: 0. Excerpt: Bharata Natyam or Bharatanatyam (Tamil: ) is a classical dance form originating in Tamil Nadu, nowadays practiced throughout South India by predominantly young females and women. It is held as the national dance of India. The dance is accompanied by the classical Carnatic music. It has its inspirations from the sculptures of the ancient temple of Chidambaram. Bharata Natyam comes from the words Bhava (Expression), Raga (Music), Tala (Rhythm) and Natya (Classic Indian Musical Theatre). Today, it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by many dancers all over the world. The Encyclopaedia Britannica states that Bharata Natyam is Sanskrit for Bharata's dancing. Surviving texts of the golden age of Tamil literature and poetry known during the Sangam Age such as the Tolkappiyam ( ), as well as the later Silappadikaram ( ), testify to a variety of dance traditions which flourished in these times. The latter work is of particular importance, since one of its main characters, the courtesan Madhavi, is a highly accomplished dancer. The Silappadikaram is a mine of information of ancient Tamil culture and society, in which the arts of music and dance were highly developed and played a major role. In ancient times it was performed as "dasiatta. Seller Inventory # LIE9781156046111

About this Item: D.K. Printworld (P) Ltd., New Delhi, India, 2015. Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. First Edition. Love Songs of Narsinh Mehta is a commentary on Narsinh Mehta s love songs. Narsinh (1408-65), a Vaishnava bhakti poet of medieval India, is considered as the adi-kavi of Gujarat. He is also regarded as a shringara kavi, a poet of romance. The quintessence of his bhakti is prem and his prem has inherent bhakti, and therefore his poetry is regarded as shringara bhakti kavya. Essentially shringara is the romantic celebration of the other, and when Narsinh's other is none other than Krishna, his shringara kavya becomes Krishna bhakti, where Krishna is both divine and human, at the same time. Singing for Krishna, Narsinh celebrates his swami through amorous verses and divine surrender like Jayadeva. He sat in a temple and relentlessly sang for his Lord, living through absolute poverty. Nothing made him more jovial than singing the glory of his Krishna. The only man for Narsinh is Krishna, and for the latter Narsinh is a woman at heart. Narsinh, through his songs, brings in the cue of all romantic feelings and moments, recreates the idyllic Vrindavana in one s mind, and he returns that Vrindavana a Vaikuntha with the footfalls of his Krishna. Through this commentary, the author Harsha V. Dehejia introduces one to the fullness of Narsinh s poems, thereby making one known to Narsinh in and out. About this Item: Atlantic Publishers & Distributors (P) Ltd., 2013. Hardcover. Condition: New. The term ‚?~Indian drama‚?T cannot be confined into a definition as it encompasses the entire gamut of Indian culture‚?"the myths, the folklores, the history and the ethos of the country. Drama in India is as old as its customs, starting right from the Vedic era. Much like the English Morality and Miracle plays, Indian drama was also essentially religious in nature as it had started out with performances in the Indrasabha or the court of the gods. With the decline of Sanskrit language it slipped into oblivion. However, the folk tradition continued unhampered in its various regional forms for a long time and kept the dramatic tradition alive. After the British came to India, a new awakening came over and the modern theatre was established by the British for their entertainment. Indian drama in English was initially hampered by the fact that English being a foreign language and limited to the elite class, found very few takers whether in the form of writers, actors or an appreciative audience. In the pre-Independence era, playwrights like Rabindranath Tagore, Sri Aurobindo and Harindranath Chattopadhyaya contributed significantly to the growth of Indian English drama. The works of these three dramatists are notable for poetical excellence, thematic variety, symbolism and morality. In the meanwhile, drama in regional languages also started to emerge as an important genre and writers like Dharamvir Bharati, Badal Sircar, Mohan Rakesh, Vijay Tendulkar and Girish Karnad began to experiment and use remarkable innovations in themes, treatment and technique. Drama today has emerged as a powerful resurgent medium to project the problematics of the social, cultural, political, traditional and historical changes that the Indian society faces besides the issues related to gender, class, caste and communities. Present anthology contains twenty-seven scholarly papers looking at Indian English drama, including plays in translation from a variety of critical positions providing useful insights. The focus of papers included in this book is on the plays of Girish Karnad, Vijay Tendulkar, Mahesh Dattani, Badal Sircar, Satish Vyas, and the Stalwart Rabindranath Tagore, among others. The collection will certainly prove to be useful to students, research scholars, teachers and others with interest in English literature, especially Indian English drama.
