Signed handwritten letter to Felix Dennis from Marita Crawley written on headed notepaper from Compton Scorpion Manor, Shipston-on-Stout, Warwickshire CV36 4PJ dated Sept 28 2009 with received stamp dated 1 Oct 2009 on upper corner and consisting of about 190 words in which she thanks him for his poetry and his performance at the Chipping Norton theatre - 'I also want to thank you for your extreme generosity. As we all know being rich does not equate with being generous. It is a wonderful example which I hope will be followed by some of your audience.' She discusses their conversation and refers to a disagreement about the unconscious and ends by saying she encloses a book 'which I played a part in getting published.' Some of the poets who contributed are Carol Ann Duffy, Ted Hughes, Christopher Reid, Dannie Abse, Elaine Feinstein, Jo Shapcott, Seamus Heaney, Ruth Padel among others. Elaine Feinstein (born 1930) poet, novelist, short story writer, playwright,biographer and translator has been described as, 'Alive to her family origins in the Russian-Jewish diaspora, she developed a close affinity with the Russian poets of this and the last century.' First edition thus published by the Folio Society in 2006 to commemorate 30 years since the publication of the Selfish Gene in 1976. This copy is in as new / fine condition. It has only been opened to obtain the signatures. The celephane is still wrapped around the slip case. Slip case and book both sharpe with no wear and the book has only been opened for the signatures and then for the photos on this listing.  This copy has been signed by both Richard Dawkins and the designer of the striking cover, Neil Gower.  The Selfish Gene is a book on evolution by the biologist Richard Dawkins, in which the author builds upon the principal theory of George C. Williams's Adaptation and Natural Selection (1966). Dawkins uses the term "selfish gene" as a way of expressing the gene-centred view of evolution. In July 2017 a poll to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Royal Society science book prize listed The Selfish Gene as the most influential science book of all time.
