First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. "After the Ifaluk" is a remarkable series of poems by Virginia L. Rudder (also known as Virginia Love Long). The book was published in paperback format by Paul Forman's Thorp Springs Press in Berkeley. This first Edition has a xeroxed copy of the typed errata slip prepared by Rudder pasted in at the back of the book (The slip is signed in the print by Rudder). The poems, which have amazing content, are inspired by South Sea islanders, Atlantian Mythology (Atlantis), and ancient world history. Some of the poems read like a mythic-personal history; others are ferocious in their honesty and invention. A most unusual and captivating book. On the copyright page is a printed note from the author: " ' The Beloved' is patterned after the Bwarux of the Ifaluk women. A combined love song and dance, the Bwarux lyrics are composed by women only. Readers are referred to 'An Atoll Culture: Ethnography of Ifaluk in the Central Carolines' by Edwin G. Burrows and Melford E. Spiro." TITLE : After the Ifaluk AUTHOR : Virginia L.
