Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Crowell, Charles; et al (illustrator). Original colour illustrated paper covered boards in matching jacket 25x32cm. Printed by Emirates Printing Press, Dubai. 80pp English text with royal portraits to the prelims, and colour photos throughout. Covers near fine with bump to lower corner, interiors near fine with small area of scarring to the lower edge of two facing pages (not affecting text), jacket very good. This was issued to promote the Jebel Ali Shooting Club in particular, and Dubai as a world class destination for sport more widely. The Club, operated by the nearby Jebel Ali Hotel, had just opened in 1995, offering purpose-built Olympic training standard facilities, aiming to host national and international championships in future. These included 5 floodlit ranges for all clay shooting disciplines, a computer controlled pistol range with moving targets, a firearms simulator room, an academy, leisure and corporate hospitality. Its architectural style was inspired by traditional Arab forts and watchtowers. The survey of its facilities is contextualised by a chapter on the history and practice of shooting, and hints on marksmanship. The book also promotes Dubai as "a sporting paradise" with spreads on golf, tennis, powerboat racing, water sports, fishing, horse racing, camel racing, rallying, go-karting, rugby, and snooker.
