All color photographs, unless otherwise designated, are by Peter Christopher. SYNOPSIS: "She was the imp of the whole house.it was impossible to resist her jokes and nonsense."--French tutor, Pierre Gilliard. Anastasia made everyone laugh. Even her father, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, could not resist her hilarious imitations of pompous visitors to the palace. The tsar and his children loved to take photographs and they spent many cozy evenings pasting snapshots of their trips and activities into albums. Anastasia like to paint flowers on the pages of her albums or add color to the black-and-white photos. Sometimes she would color an entire picture--at other times she would simply highlight a favorite hat or dress. Anastasia also wrote letters to her father and to friends that reveal her lively personality. Even after the tsar's downfall and the imperial family's imprisonment in Siberia, Anastasia's photographs and letters continued, providing a record of their lives until almost the very end. Drawing on these precious personal keepsakes--long hidden in Soviet archives--Anastasia's Album offers a unique glimpse into the private world of the last Romanovs. Here is the fascinating true story of a remarkable young girl's life and an unforgettable portrait of the last days of imperial Russia. Hugh Brewster is a Canadian editor and writer. While viewing the imperial family's albums at the State Archive in Moscow, he realized that Anastasia's story, as told through her own photographs and letters, would make a wonderful illustrated book for readers of all ages. Peter Christopher's color photography complements the period photographs taken by Anastasia and her family. - and - Enter the world behind the palace gates.Anastasia's Album. She was the family comic, full of fun and pranks. She was also the Grand Duchess Anastasia Nicholaievna, fourth daughter of the tsar of Russia. Anastasia loved to take photographs of all her family's activities and paste them into hand-decorated albums. Published here for the first time, Anastasia's photographs, drawings and letters tell a story that will enthrall readers of all ages. From the splendors of St. Petersburg's great palaces to the family's exile and imprisonment in Siberia, here is an unforgettable portrait of Anastasia's life and the lost world of imperial Russia.
