Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine dj. Illustrated by (dj design) Andrzej Klimowski (illustrator). First Edition. [a beautiful, as-new copy with no discernible wear to either book or jacket]. (B&W photographs, facsimiles) SIGNED on the title page by both the subject, Dario Argento, and the author. The first book in English devoted to the work of the Italian director who the jacket blurb calls "the most controversial filmmaker in horror movies today, [whose] films have shocked and amazed audience all over the world." The author "traces Argento's influences, brings to bear on each film a variety of critical approaches and examines his influence on protégés Luigi Cozzi, Lamberto Bava and Michele Soavi. Lavishly illustrated with rare stills, ad mattes and poster art, [the book] is an in-depth, highly readable study of an unconventional artist." On the one hand, it might be noted that Argento (b.1940) has continued working into the 2020s, and that therefore the scope of this work is limited/incomplete. On the other, consider this assessment (from Wikipedia): "With the exceptions of [just two films], all of Argento's films since the 'golden age' of the 1970s and 1980s have been generally poorly received by critics and fans alike, including Argento scholars such as Maitland McDonagh.".
