Subtitled "An Account Of the Dominion's Air Breathing Vertebrates" its coverage is divided into Mammalia, Aves, Reptilia and amphibians, with the birds (aves) being the largest section by far. The book was first published in 1904 and was an immediate success with a second edition the following year. In this fourth, revised and enlarged edition of 1923, the additions and amendments were carried out by Drummond alon,e following the death of his collaborator. 434 pages including two appendices and four index, Illustrated in b/w throuhout with 153 figures, mainly art with some photpographs. Green hard covers with gilt front and spine titles VG, FFEP has been removed, front board trifle loose, text block otherwise excellent, bright and clean.

Hardcover. Condition: VG. No Jacket. 9th. This early guide to the English-Maori vocabulary was initially published in London in 1862, the work of W L Williams, Bishop of Waiapu. A second edition was printed by Upton in Auckland 10 years later, with a third in London in 1882. In 1894 the first of four editions by Upton appeared followed succession by three more by 1910. Whicombs and Tombs, Auckland, took over for the eighth edition (1923) and for this ninth edition of 1930. Over the years the original work remained the focus of "First :Lessons." as it was revised and enlarged. For this 9th edition the revision process was in the hands of H W Williams, grandson of the orginal author, also was Bishop of Waiapu. and several passages were re-written, some corrections made with an index of subjects added. Ninth edition of 1930, 141 pages. Red hard covers are VG with black front/spine titles and tiki decoration centre front, two light spots front and light wear spine extremities, FFEP neatly removed, dealer label lower edge title page . text block otherwise excellent.
