Rückseitig mit Atelierstempel. -- gut erhalten. || Georges Ricard-Cordingley (…1873-1939) was a French painter born in Lyon. Around the year 1887, he takes up drawing, under the direction of Jean-Charles Cazin, a landscape painter from Pas-de-Calais. From 1888 to 1889 he studies at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon. In 1890, Ricard-Cordingley moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Julian under Benjamin Constant, Louis Martinet and Jules Lefebvre. From 1892 to 1896, he embarks in three expeditions in the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, producing numerous studies of sea scenery, as well as images of the port and portraits of the fishermen. This is his first encounter with a subject that would follow him throughout his artistic career: the sea, the ocean and their scenery. In 1909 he opens his first studio in Boulogne-sur-Mer, while also working from London and Paris, painting portraits and seascapes. He travels and exhibits in Australia from 1909 to 1910. After the First World War, he moves to Cannes. He continues to travel a lot, to Normandy, Brittany, the Mediterranean Sea, Basque Country, lake regions in Switzerland, Italy and France, then again to the North Sea. He travels to North Africa from 1931 to 1934 and exhibits in Morocco in 1934. He continues to travel to Spain and Portugal, finally settling in Cannes where he dies from a stroke in 1939. || Georges Ricard-Cordingley (1873-1939) est un peintre français né à Lyon. Vers 1887, il se met au dessin, sous la direction de Jean-Charles Cazin, peintre paysagiste du Pas-de-Calais. De 1888 à 1889, il étudie à l'École des beaux-arts de Lyon. En 1890, Ricard-Cordingley s'installe à Paris et étudie à l'Académie Julian auprès de Benjamin Constant, Louis Martinet et Jules Lefebvre. De 1892 à 1896, il s'embarque dans trois expéditions en mer du Nord et dans l'océan Atlantique, réalisant de nombreuses études de paysages marins, ainsi que des images du port et des portraits de pêcheurs. C'est sa première rencontre avec un sujet qui le suivra tout au long de sa carrière artistique : la mer, l'océan et leurs paysages. En 1909, il ouvre son premier atelier à Boulogne-sur-Mer, tout en travaillant également depuis Londres et Paris, peignant des portraits et des marines. Il voyage et expose en Australie de 1909 à 1910. Après la Première Guerre mondiale, il s'installe à Cannes. Il continue de beaucoup voyager, en Normandie, en Bretagne, en Méditerranée, au Pays Basque, dans les régions lacustres de Suisse, d'Italie et de France, puis de nouveau en Mer du Nord. Il voyage en Afrique du Nord de 1931 à 1934 et expose au Maroc en 1934. Around the year 1887, he takes up drawing, under the direction of Jean-Charles Cazin, a landscape painter from Pas-de-Calais. From 1888 to 1889 he studies at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon. In 1890, Ricard-Cordingley moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Julian under Benjamin Constant, Louis Martinet and Jules Lefebvre. From 1892 to 1896, he embarks in three expeditions in the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, producing numerous studies of sea scenery, as well as images of the port and portraits of the fishermen. This is his first encounter with a subject that would follow him throughout his artistic career: the sea, the ocean and their scenery. In 1909 he opens his first studio in Boulogne-sur-Mer, while also working from London and Paris, painting portraits and seascapes. He travels and exhibits in Australia from 1909 to 1910. After the First World War, he moves to Cannes. He continues to travel a lot, to Normandy, Brittany, the Mediterranean Sea, Basque Country, lake regions in Switzerland, Italy and France, then again to the North Sea. He travels to North Africa from 1931 to 1934 and exhibits in Morocco in 1934.
