Item Description: New York: Minton, Balch & Company, 1934, 1934. Tall octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine and front board in gilt and orange, top edge orange. With the dust jacket. Light wear to corners and spine ends, gilt on spine a touch darkened, joints slightly tender, edges and endpapers lightly toned. A very good copy in a price-clipped jacket with slightly chipped and nicked extremities, and a couple of short closed tears to rear panel repaired with paper to verso. First edition, first printing. Presentation copy inscribed by Dewey on the front free endpaper: "To Lois with love, John Dewey." Based on ten lectures originally given by Dewey at Harvard a few years earlier, Art as Experience encapsulates Dewey's thoughts on aesthetics and the relationship between art, the artist and the audience.
