Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. The opening flyleaf has some scratch notes from the p.o. The p.o. also laid in an old news paper clipping that has stained the pages surrounding the contents page. Binding is fine. The DJ shows heavy roughing to the upper right corner on the front and minor rubbing/roughing to all other edges and corners. The DJ is now protected by a mylar cover.

Hardcover. xii, 266p., "charts" section; first edition cloth boards in dust jacket. Bright copy. Boards slightly yawn, as usual, a bindery carelessness. The dust jacket is a little edgeworn and its spine panel is somewhat sunned, resulting in mild fade that remains quite legible. Note publisher; the naughty "Penthouse" name assured a fairly good print run. "The Tapes" was Issued in "pornographer" Larry Flynt's openly activist period, which period culminated in vol. 1 no. 1 of "The Rebel, the Newsweekly with a Cause," the extraordinary 1983 magazine whose reputation rests on a single issue. Flynt was discouraged from activism, as you may recall. Well, class come together. "The Assassination Tapes" is an important book, pace O'Toole having been "a computer specialist who served with the Central Intelligence Agency as chief of its Problem Analysis Branch. and worked in the space program." Judging him by a) commonsense standards of probity, b) over time, he is Agee and Stockwell writ small, an agreeable achievement. Beyond the main topic, one should also pay attention to the Wesley Frazier portion of the O'Toole text. Buell Wesley Frazier lived across the street from Ruth Paine, worked in the book depository, gave Oswald a ride to work that crucial morning as on past occasion. The night of the assassination Wesley Frazier was grilled most of the night, let go, went home, was recalled for more, released with severe cautionings. He thereupon joined the military and to all practical purposes disappeared. O'Toole is the only one to have found and put a few questions to him, or to have questioned Wesley's sister, Linnie Mae Randle, with any success. Say, what? --well, you may remember, and if you remember you may or may not credit, the stories of the extra rifles found in the TSBD. The Mauser of course, fairly well-documented, and the Enfield, of much more shadowy repute. Buell Wesley Frazier owned an Enfield. They (THE they) weren't yet sure how many patsies were needed to account for the bullets and wounds. It was touch and go for a while that they make do with Oswald alone. --See Noel Twyman's 1997 discussion in his book "Bloody Treason," his the first analysis this cataloguer knows that makes the case that the team in the field was seriously deficient, or had bad luck, making mistakes just barely contained by the THEY.

Hardcover. xii, 266p., "charts" section; first edition cloth boards in dust jacket. Boards yawn very faintly, a flaw in all copies we have seen, usually it's worse. Cloth is bright, also the lettering. The unclipped jacket is slightly edgeworn, else entirely sound and bright. Clean and unmarked, very good condition.
