Intensely illustrated with examples. 384 pages. ABOUT THE BOOK: Design is the process of creating visual and functional solutions for a specific purpose. Designers use various elements and principles to achieve harmony, balance, contrast, rhythm, and unity in their work. One of the most influential sources of design education is the foundation program at the School of Design in Basel, Switzerland, which was developed by Manfred Maier and his colleagues in the 1970s. Manfred Maier was a Swiss graphic designer, teacher, and author who taught at the School of Design in Basel from 1968 to 1988. He was also the director of the foundation program, which aimed to provide students with a solid basis for creative thinking and problem-solving. The foundation program consisted of four volumes that covered various aspects of design, such as drawing, color, material studies, textile design, graphic exercises, and dimensional design. The basic principles of design by Manfred Maier are based on his observation and analysis of natural and artificial phenomena. He believed that design should be rooted in reality and reflect the laws of nature. He also emphasized the importance of experimentation, exploration, and discovery as essential methods for learning and creating. ~ Paper / Soft cover reprint edition in very good or better condition, slight wear to edges.
