One of a limited edition of 324 numbered copies signed by the author on the limitation leaf, this is copy number 115. In fine condition with the lightest of shelfwear. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. A superior example. "After the success of his first three novels, Huxley abandoned the fictional milieu of literary London and directed his satire toward an imagined future. He admitted that the original idea of Brave New World was to challenge H.G. Wells’ Utopian vision The novel also marks Huxley’s increasing disenchantment with the world, which was to result in his leaving England for California in 1937 in search of a more spiritual life. The book was immediately successful" (Parker & Kermode). Bookseller Inventory # 5076

Item Description: Chatto & Windus, London. 1932, 1st edition, 1st printing. () Near fine in very good dust jacket. 306pp. Octavo. Bound in publisher's dark blue cloth with gold gilt lettering and decorations stamped to the spine. The top edge of text block stained blue. Slight bumping to corners. Some minor spots of foxing to the bottom edge. Illustrated dust jacket is price clipped and has some minor rubbing to the back panel, but is in very good condition otherwise. Internally clean and an overall tight and bright copy. This is the first trade edition of Huxley's seminal piece of dystopic literature in the scarcely seen dust jacket. This novel takes place in an imagined dystopic state where the population is limited; natural reproduction and, as a result, the family, have been abolished; children are educated through hypnopaedic processes. Citizens have been conditioned to accept their stations in life through a process of breeding in castes, sensational entertainment, drugs, encouraged recreational sex and an abundance of material goods. There are areas of the world where "savage reservations" exist without such luxuries and family units and romantic relationships still exist. The majority of the story revolves around one such savage, John, as he is introduced to the New World and ultimately rejects the morally empty society. A beautiful copy of one of the greatest works of dystopic fiction and a deeply influential work that has been alluded to in numerous songs, movies, television shows and other books. First Edition, First Printing Beautiful book with a stunning near fine vibrant original dust jacket The book is in beautiful condition with bright blue boards still retaining their original sheen, with bright unfaded gilt titles to spine. The boards have sharp corners, with one small soft corner bump, and no edgewear. The binding is tight and square. The end papers and internal pages are clean, with no owner names, no inscriptions, no bookstore stamps and no bookplates. The internal pages are clean, bright and flat with no stains, no marks, no writing, no handling marks, no bent pages and no foxing but a few pages with a small faded smudge outside of the margin.
