The author was Chief Medical Officer on the QE2 and other great Cunard ships for 12 years, responsible for the health of almost 3,000 passengers and crew. C-Six is the C stairway on 6 deck, positioned, as most ships' hospitals are, directly on the waterline at the centre of the ship to afford maximum stability and comfort, hence ironically but appropriately the address of the world most prestigious sick bay. These memoirs contain, naturally, medical emergencies, tales such as dentistry on a celebrity drunk, stories of chronic seasickness, acute appendicitis, drownings and a coronary in the casino. There is a large social side to his duties as he hosts a table slightly lower down from the Captain's, and his anecdotes about passengers are both affectionate and amusing. It is also an insight into how the systems of such a ship spring into action whenever a medical crisis arises. L Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Signed by Author.
