First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 8-3/4 by 11-1/4 inches. Sánchez's first book, a key collection of poetry from the Chicano Movement. Sánchez spent most of the 1960s in prison where he earned his GED and began writing. He later went on to receive a doctorate and became one of the leading figures in Chicano poetry. Lomelí and Urioste call this book "An excellent poetic manifesto." It is also one of the key works of the Chicano Movement. Reprinted several times, this is the only edition in a large format that allows Sanchez's poems to spread out on the page as he intended. Illustrated by Manuel Acosta, with line drawings and two lovely color plates. Reportedly one of 2000 copies, but much scarcer than the print run would suggest. First edition (first printing). A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket. The jacket has some spotting, a common issue with this title. However, the thin paper of the jacket is virtually free of tears. A nice copy of a scarce book.
