Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1965. First edition. 62pp. Sir Derek Alton Walcott (1930-2017) was a Saint Lucian poet and playwright, and in 1992 he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. In this book he is an interpreter between the Old World and the New. Making use of Caribbean imagery, he is mainly concerned with the themes of isolation, and the resolution of identity through loneliness. The book is bound in the original paper covered boards with a black cloth spine and gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with browning around the top and fore edges of the boards. The spine ends are lightly bumped and there is a very light dent on the top edge of the rear board. The contents are tight and clean with light browning around the top and fore margins of the pages. We believe this copy was previously owned by Richard Alexander Kell (1927-2023), the Irish poet, composer and teacher, and several of the pages have short and neatly written pencil notes by Kell. The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear with light soiling and the spine is slightly faded and browned. There is also browning on the top and fore edges, mostly noticeable on the reverse. The top edge is lightly creased with small nicks and there is a tear of about 3/4" on the top front edge that has been repaired on the reverse with tape.
