Like their father, the twins possess supernormal abilities-making them valuable to their manipulative aunt Alia, who rules the Empire in the name of House Atreides. Facing treason and rebellion on two fronts, Alia's rule is not absolute. The displaced House Corrino is plotting to regain the throne while the fanatical Fremen are being provoked into open revole by the enigmatic figure known only as The Preacher. Alia believes that by obtaining the secrets of the twins' prophetic visions, she can maintain control over her dynasty. But Leto and Ghanima have their own plans for their visions-and their destinies."--Page 4 of cover. HARDCOVER. 1st Edition. Thick, heavy 8vo, gilt lettering to spine, map end-papers, 910pp, appendices at rear including 'Terminology of the Imperium' and 'Cartographic Notes for Map Endpapers'. This book was first published by Gollancz in brown faux-leather covered boards. It sold faster than expected and more copies of the first edition sheets were bound up in covers originally intended for the book club edition (BCA), these had bright red covers with Gollancz printed in gilt on the spine but with a very faint ghost of 'BCA' behind it (the BCA logo having been stamped but not gilted), These copies make no mention of Book Club Associates on the title-page or colophon. Subsequent copies (i.e. the 3rd issue) were issued in red covers without the ghosting. This copy is from the 2nd issue of the first edition with BCA ghosting to the spine. There was no equivalent US edition of this book CONDITION: An extremely well preserved FINE very clean, bright and tight unmarked copy in a FINE complete Dust Jacket (slightly spine sunned, looks fine in its removable transparent protector).
