This is another paragraph Book Description: Herbert's evocative, epic tales are set on the desert planet Arrakis, the focus for a complex political and military struggle with galaxy-wide repercussions. Arrakis is the source of spice, a mind-enhancing drug which makes interstellar travel possible; it is the most valuable substance in the galaxy. When Duke Atreides and his family take up court there, they fall into a trap set by the Duke's bitter rival, Baron Harkonnen. The Duke is poisoned, but his wife and her son Paul escape to the vast and arid deserts of Arrakis, which have given the planet its nickname of Dune. Paul and his mother join the Fremen, the Arrakis natives, who have learnt to live in this harsh and complex ecosystem. But learning to survive is not enough - Paul's destiny was mapped out long ago and his mother is committed to seeing it fulfilled.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. RARE to find this superb trilogy in such a collectable condition. Over forty years old now, and allowing for that it is rated Near Fine. Book is solid with no separation from the spine; the stained top of the text block is still good looking. The edges of the text block are clean, as is the text, because Gollancz used a decent acid free paper. There is no sign of ill usage. No owner names, no turned over corners, and the over nine hundred pages are clean and tight. The close weave cloth binding is a good colour, and the corners are not damaged. If this book has been read it shows little sign of it. Usually, in all the copies I've seen, there is at least some 'pull' from the spine; it is a hefty tome. The endpaper maps are splendid. The jacket is unclipped and it is without the usual slackness. It is a bit faded on the spine but after over forty years that is a small fault. In fact that is the only fault. The jacket is now protected. A masterpiece, and much sought after.
