Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. Knopf, New York, 2015. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Stated "First Edition", presumed first printing with no printing history. 9-3/8" tall, 903 numbered pages, followed by 7 numbered pages of "Postscript", then unnumbered pages of "Acknowledgements", "On Sources", "Permissions", "Acknowledgements", "Illustrations Credits","A Note About the Author" and "A Note On the Type"; one-piece black cloth-like binding, gilt lettering on spine only; front board has three 2"-to-2-1/2" red fireworks bursts near the upper right quadrant; plain black end pages; fore edge is trimmed. Book is brand new and pristine: it is square, hinges are tight, corners not bumped, no dings on edges, head of spine has a small crease, interior clean and unmarked; no page corners folded or damaged; no staining or discoloration. Jacket also is pristine: it is clean; no tears, folds or fading; it has a very slight crease at top of the spine; raised letters the title and box with the author's name on both the front panel and the spine are evident (they have not been crushed); publisher's original price of "$30.00" listed on the upper right corner of front flap; 2-1/4" x 1" black-on-white store sticker (author, title, price, ISBN number & bar code) on lower right corner of rear panel; and there is a 1-1/2" circular black-on-gold "SIGNED FIRST / EDITION" sticker near the lower right corner of the front panel at the fore edge. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being brand new and not read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no previous owner markings or inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Signed by the author in thin black felt pen at the bottom of title page beneath his printed name. He made an absolutely wonderful presentation at Saint Louis County (Missouri) Library headquarters on Tuesday, September 27, 2016; his use of hand and arm gestures can only be described as very "Italian!"; he talked about the genesis of the book, read a selection about Charlie (pgs. 224-231 ["You're driving me home"]) and a very engaging question and answer period with the audience. I showed him the signature & he commented that he had signed 9000 books in a warehouse and this looked like #7400 because of its illegibility; below his existing signature, he printed the location and date ("St. Louis / 9.27.16") then atop the "C" of the title, he doodled a four-building city. Signed by Author(s).
