William Pett Ridge (1859-1930) was the leading novelist of London life and character, leading to him being characterised as the natural successor of Dickens.Ridge's great popularity as a novelist in the early part of the century declined in the latter years of his life. His work was considered to be rather old fashioned. Tauchnitz was the name of a family of German printers and publishers. In the summer of 1843, Tauchnitz presented one of the earliest copyright proposals, which was initially accepted by G.P.R. James, Bulwer Lytton, and Lady Blessington and later by Charles Dickens, Benjamin Disraeli, Ainsworth, Samuel Warren and Captain Marryat. They published English language literature for distribution on the European continent outside Great Britain, including initial serial publications of novels by Charles Dickens. Though copyright protection did not exist between nations in the 19th century, Tauchnitz paid the authors for the works they published, and agreed to limit their sales of English-language books to the European continent, as authors like Dickens or Bulwer-Lytton had separate arrangements for publication and sale in Great Britain. Add to basketHalbleinen. Condition: gut. Erste Aufl. Buchdruck vom Bleisatz Emma Marshall (1830?1899) was an English children's author who wrote more than 200 novels. Her method was to pick a historic character or famous building and weave a story around it, her best selling books were Under Salisbury Spire, Penshurst Castle and Winchester Meads. Of Life's Aftermath (1876), perhaps the most popular of her novels, thirteen thousand copies have been issued. She had a special faculty for turning to account dim legend or historical incident, and her books generally have some celebrated historical character for the central figure round whom the story is woven; in Under Salisbury Spire (1890) it is George Herbert, in Penshurst Castle (1894) it is Sir Philip Sidney. Her last book, The Parson's Daughter, was finished by her daughter Beatrice after her mother's death, and published in 1899. All her tales have a high moral and religious tone. Many have been translated; several were included in the Tauchnitz Library. Sir Thomas Browne (* 19. Oktober 1605 in London; ? 19. Oktober 1682 starb. (Wikipedia) In englischer Sprache. 319 pages. Klein 8° (118 x 158mm).
