In the realm of travel literature, Mavor authored Historical Account of the Most Celebrated Voyages, Travels, and Discoveries, from the Time of Columbus to the Present Period, a 20-volume compilation first published in 1796 that chronicled major explorations, including European encounters with the Americas, Africa, and Asia, often excerpting primary accounts for popular dissemination. The work emphasized navigational feats, colonial expansions, and ethnographic observations, aligning with Enlightenment interests in global knowledge, though it prioritized narrative accessibility over critical analysis. All of the principle voyages up to 1796 are presented as well as all of the principle explorations and travels throughout the Americas, Africa and Asia. Mavor's educational works exerted a lasting influence on British schooling, with many passing through numerous editions and achieving widespread adoption in academies and homes. His The English Spelling Book (1801), featuring woodcuts by Thomas Bewick, reportedly sold over two million copies by 1823, serving as a staple for teaching literacy to youth. An 18th century encyclopaedia of all the great voyages from Columbus to Donald Campbell Narrative, including Cook's three voyages and a folding plate of the Death of Cook.
