Die bedeutenden Gebäude der Stadt wurden durch Ziffern gekennzeichnet. Eine entsprechende Legende befindet sich unterhalb der Graphik. Außerdem wurde rechts unten eine Windrose eingearbeitet. - Eindrucksvolle Vedute von Konstanz mit Blick auf den Bodensee, die Wohnhäuser, Kirchen und Wehranlagen der Stadt. Belebt wird die Szenerie durch Figurenstaffage. - Das Blatt verfügt über eine Verlagsbugfalte mit kleinen Einrissen oben und unten. Unscheinbare altersbedingte Unreinheiten im Randbereich. Verso Kleberückstände aus früherer Montage. Insgesamt in einem guten Erhaltungszustand. - - Matthäus Merian (1593 Basel - 1650 Langenschwalbach). Schweizerisch-deutscher Kupferstecher und Verleger. Schüler beim Züricher Kupferstecher Friedrich Meyer. 1610-15 Studium bei Dietrich Brentel Straßburg und bei Jacques Callot in Nancy und Paris. 1615 Entstehung seines großen Basler Stadtplans. 1616 Arbeit bei dem Verleger und Kupferstecher Johann Theodor de Bry in Frankfurt am Main und Oppenheim. Ab 1623 Fortführung des Verlagshauses de Brys in Frankfurt. Vater von Matthäus Merian dem Jüngeren, Caspar Merian sowie Maria Sibylla Merian. Merian gab eine Reihe von "Topographien" verschiedener Länder heraus; es erschienen 30 Bände mit über 2000 Stadt- und Ortsansichten. Die nach der Natur aufgenommenen Ansichten sind in der Perspektive meisterhaft und stellen oftmals die ältesten dokumentierten Ansichten der jeweiligen Orte dar. Zwischen 1633 und 1738 erschien in 21 Bänden das von Merian begründete "Theatrum Europaeum", eine umfassende Chronik der Zeit, im Besonderen des Dreißigjährigen Krieges und der Regierungszeit Ludwigs XIV. Von den 720 illustrierenden Kupfertafeln hat Merian selbst rund 140 Stück gestochen.

Die bedeutenden Gebäude und Einrichtungen der Stadt wurden durch Ziffern gekennzeichnet. Eine entsprechende Legende befindet sich unterhalb der Graphik. Auch wurde eine Windrose in der rechten unteren Ecke in das Motiv eingearbeitet. Außerdem wurde "Der Boden See", "Petershausen" und "Der Rhein" benannt. - Detaillierte Übersicht der Stadt Konstanz in Baden-Württemberg mit Blick auf die zahlreichen Bauwerke, den Wehranlagen, den angrenzenden Bodensee und den umliegenden Ländereien. Innerhalb der Szenerie wurden Staffage-Figuren integriert - Schöner, differenzierter Druck. Mittig Bugfalte. Rand umläufig angeschmutzt. Insgesamt ein gut erhaltenes Exemplar. -.
