About this Item: Jonathan Cape / Random House, London, 2003. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. Jacket by Chris Brown (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition, subsequent impression with number line '2 4 6 8 10 9 7 5 3'. This is the 'adult' version published by Cape. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, IN BLACK PEN, WITHOUT DEDICATION, ON TITLE PAGE. Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly bruised, slight lean. Not price clipped (10.99), no other inscriptions, internally clean and tight, overall a vg+ copy. 272pp. 'The dog was lying on the grass in the middle of the lawn in front of Mrs Shears' house. It looked as if it was running on its side, the way dogs run when they think they are chasing a cat in a dream. But the dog was not running or asleep. The dog was dead. There was a garden fork sticking out of the dog.' 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down. Christopher is a brilliant creation, and Mark Haddon's depiction of his world is deeply moving, very funny and utterly convincing. A classic, scarce signed. Signed by Author(s). About this Item: Jonathan Cape, London, 2003. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. viii, 272 printed pages. First edition. First issue. Signed in flourishing hand by author "Mark Haddon" in ink on title page. Burgundy endpapers. 16 x 22.5 cm. Black cloth binding. Spine lettered in gilt. First Edition first impression. Winner of the Whitbread book of the year, Haddon also won the Commonwealth Writers Prize in the Best First Book category, as The Curious Incident was considered his first written for adults; he also won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, a once-in-a-lifetime award judged by a panel of children's writers. Fine in Fine unclipped dustjacket, a tight & clean copy that appears to be unread, presented in a clear removable protective sleeve. Haddon aimed to write a book about more than a disability. He wanted to explore the magic of getting inside someone's head who, from the outside, acts and is different from most. In the author's mind, the message goes beyond embracing those with special needs. The National Theatre produced a hugely successful stage play based on the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted by Simon Stephens. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 4310
