Volume I, To 1727, Dated 1844; Volume Ii, From 1727, Dated 1853 (For Which We Cannot Offer An Explanation Other Than That The Sheets Were Sent At Random From The Publisher In 1853, Using Old Stock On Hand). Gilt Brilliant But Cloth Quite Worn And Frayed, Volume Ii Frayed Through Along Rear Spine Edge With Rear Board Detached And Spine Cloth Held Only At Front Spine Edge; Lacking One Free Blank Endpaper At Rear Of Volume I; Lacking Front Free Endpapers And Half Title, Also Rear Free Endpapers, To Volume Ii. I Can Find No Mention In Worldcat Of Any Lippincott & Granbo Edition Prior To 1854, So Apparently The 1844 Volume I And 1853 Volume Ii Is Scarce Or Even Not Previously Known. The Content Is Probably Identical To Many English Editions, But Even The 1854 American Edition Is Scarce, Particularly In The Original Boards, And These Identical Bindings May Be Otherwise Unknown; The English Editions Were Usually Bound In Half Or Full Leather.
