Originally published in 7 volumes as the 'Whittingham Edition' this rather unusual full leather set has been rebacked. The second title pages refer to be published in 7 volumes, however, this set is over 14 volumes, because of this the binder has duplicated 7 volumes with two lots of different tools down the 14 spines, with generic titles to all 14. Illustrated title pages to seven volumes, other illustrations throughout the 14 volumes. From the private library of Thomas Valentine Smith with his bookplate to each front paste down. Thomas Valentine Smith inherited Ardtornish House, Morvern, Lochaber from his father, he was a sportsman and a vicarious adventurer and enjoyed entertaining parties of like-minded guests.
