Presentation copy, inscribed to Ira Cohen in the artist's elegant hand: "For Ira Cohen and Caroline, with love, good luck, Vali 'Il Porto' 25th November 1981 (Salerno) Italy. 'Nine miles from Gundagai.'" Cohen, one of Myers' great friends, was responsible for one of the photographs included in the volume. A handsomely produced and extensively illustrated survey of Myers' work, the volume also contains an introduction by George Plimpton. Plimpton was an early fan, collected her work, and first published it in the eighteenth issue of The Paris Review. Vali Myers, a fantastical and hallucinatory artist originally born in Australia, lived variously in Paris, New York, 'Il Porto' in Positano, and Melbourne. While in New York, she lived in the Chelsea Hotel and befriended Abbie Hoffman, Patti Smith, among other members of the downtown art scene. Very good; minor foxing and smudging, dustjacket toned and with minor soiling, short closed tear to rear fold, nicks and chips at extremities.
