Good to very good. Postage quoted is for a standard format octavo book. Final charges may vary depending on size and weight. Ostracized from polite British society for a scandal committed by his father, Percy Fawcett spent much of his life trying to pull the family reputation back from beyond the pale. He did this by joining the army (where the rumours of his sire's misdeeds kept him from promotion) and then by undertaking exploration work in South America which nobody else wanted to attempt. Vast sprawling territories of lucrative rubber plantations threatened war amongst South American nations, so the British were called in as a disinterested party who could be relied upon to accurately map the territorial boundaries - since no-one saw much glory in this work, Percy Fawcett stepped up to take it on. During his time embarked upon this ongoing mission, Fawcett became convinced that there was a long-lost hidden civilization buried in the jungle of the Matto Grosso in Brazil, and he doggedly pursued all leads to its discovery, naming it tentatively, the Lost City of Z. In 1925, while following the latest clue to its existence with his eldest son, they both vanished in the wilderness never to be heard from again. Years later, Fawcett's youngest son Brian - now a railroad engineer, based in South America - began to go over his father's notes and log-books and to put them in some kind of order. The result is this engrossing volume, which Ernest Hemingway declared to be the greatest true adventure story of the age. Seller Inventory # 202544
