Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. A First Edition, First Printing. A rare complete set of the entire fourteen books in the Wheel of Time series. With one exception, the first eleven books are all first editions, first printings (the exception is Book 2, The Great Hunt, which is a second printing) and each is signed by the author Robert Jordan. Books 11- 13 were written by Brandon Sanderson after the death of Robert Jordan, and are also first editions and signed "Robert Jordan" by auto-pen. These books have been carefully read by the original and sole owner of the books, and each volume and jacket is in near fine (or better) condition. Due to the size of the books, the text blocks in most cases have separated a bit from the spine; the spine ends are crimped; there is minimal shelf wear; minor wear to the spine ends, and a little soiling to the text blocks. Truly a beautiful set. Signed by Author(s).

Add to basketFirst edition, inscribed by the author on the title page, "For Pat, Best Wishes, Robert Jordan". This is the first book in the acclaimed Wheel of Time series, now one of the best-selling fantasy series since The Lord of the Rings. A TV adaptation starring Rosamund Pike premiered in 2021. Robert Jordan is the pen name of James Oliver Rigney, Jr. (1948-2007), a veteran of the Vietnam war who later worked as a nuclear physicist for the US Navy, before turning to writing in 1977. The Wheel of Time series spans 14 novels, with the final three written by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan's death. Its "popularity can be attributed to the appeal of Jordan's interwoven plots and his large cast of diverse characters; he also combines conventional genre elements [and] the important balance of between male and female characters in the series is a welcome change from much male-dominated genre fantasy" (Barron). This is the hybrid issue, one of a small number of wrappered copies that were rebound by the publishers into boards after the small run of 1,500 hardcover copies (most of which went to libraries) was exhausted. It is distinguished by being perfect-bound inside the cloth covers, rather than with the usual quires. It still has the colophon stating "First edition, February 1990", the number line including the 1, the ISBNs for both paperback and hardcover issues listed (removed in later printings), and the first printing jacket priced $24.95. Barron, Fantasy and Horror 7-201; Clute, Encyclopedia of Fantasy, p. 524. Octavo. Original blue boards, spine lettered in gilt, illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Jacket unclipped: a fine copy.

First Edition Signed
First editions. Signed first editions of the first four books of the acclaimed Wheel of Time series. First edition, first printing of each volume; first state binding of the much sought-after first volume, The Eye of the World. Each volume signed by Robert Jordan on the title page, all but the third volume in black ink; the third is in blue ink. Bound in publisher's navy cloth; the first three volumes lettered in silver, the fourth lettered in gilt. Very Near Fine, pages toned with age, in Near Fine dust jackets with uniform sunning to spines of jackets and books themselves, corners of The Dragon Reborn bumped. Nice shape overall. An attractive set that traveled together for many decades; not cobbled together many years after-the-fact, and all volumes flat-signed on their respective title pages-- no bookplates, laid in slips, etc. They were originally purchased from a Southwestern bookseller by a collector as a group decades ago; then sold back to that same bookseller recently when the collector was downsizing later in life. An impressive signed collection of the first volumes in the bestselling, epic fantasy series.
