About this Item: Welsh Outlook Press, 1927. Disbound. Condition: Good. First Edition. 28 pages. Published from 1914 to 1933, The Welsh Outlook was intended to promote a view of Cultural Nationalism and social progress within Wales, as reflected in the topics in each monthly part. The magazine is considered to have been important in the development of Welsh Nationalism, and Wales as a Nation separate from the rest of Britain, most especially so from England through the Welsh language. The print runs were tiny, even by the standards of the day, perhaps only 2000 an issue in the early days, rather less later, and are consequently tricky to find. Note; this is an original monthly part separated from the annual volume, and does not have the original wrappers. Contains; A Constructive Policy by T.P. Ellis; The Exile's Corner in Tibet by Captain F. Kingdon-Ward; The Appreciation of Art in Wales by Ifan Kyrle Fletcher; Transfiguring a mountain by R. Alun Roberts; A Church in The Welsh Tract, Delaware by Prof. J. Gwili Jenkins; The Knights of The Bare Knees by Rev. T. Dyfan Thomas; S'Nellie's Welsh Fairy Tales: Bones & Buttermilk by Eleanor Boniface; The Issue at Geneva by Frank Owen; Histories of The Royal Welch Fusiliers by J. Paine; Wales at Work - A Social Diary by Rev. Gwilym Davies. Size: Quarto. 28 pages. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Welsh Outlook; Inventory No: 224204. 21 years of serving customers on ABE. A seller you can rely on. Seller Inventory # 224204

About this Item: London: William Heinemann, 1917, 1917. Octavo. Original orange cloth, titles gilt ot spine. A few trivial marks, spine sunned, ends and corners just nicked, slight cracking to rear inner hinges, but still a very good copy. First edition, first impression. With the pencil ownership inscription of Siegfried Sassoon's uncle the sculptor Hamo Thornycroft (1850-1925) to front free endpaper, and also his initials to front cover. As well as though Sassoon, Graves and Thornycroft also had a close mutual friend in the poet Edmund Gosse. A pleasing association showing interest, among the cultural figures of an older generation, in the controversially rejuvinated genre of war poetry. Seller Inventory # 119222

About this Item: London: William Heinemann, 1917, 1917. Octavo. Original red cloth, titles gilt to spine. With the dust jacket. Spine slightly faded, tiny nicks to tips, mild partial toning to endpapers, one gutter cracking within, otherwise clean and fresh, a smart copy in excellent condition, with a superb example of the dust jacket, a little spine-tanned, some loss at the head and smaller chips and closed tears to corners and edges. First edition, with the rare dust jacket, and an autograph letter signed from graves laid-in discussing the book; one of 1,000 copies printed. Graves writes, "This was the first book of mine published in the USA. I wrote it during the First World War as an infantry captain, between the ages of 19 and 22. My rank was not due to merit, but to the extraordinarily heavy casualties among officers in trench-fighting. I have kept very few of these poems in my collected work; but one has to make a start somewhere and at least they were not imitative of my elders or contemporaries". The letter is signed and dated 21 November 1956, and folded into an envelope to Fraser Drew, professor of English at the State University College for Teacher, Buffalo, New York, with a Spanish stamp affixed to it. The book also bears the bookplate of R. N. Green-Armytage, who was doctor to Graves's eldest daughter Jenny in the 1930s. Fairies and Fusiliers, Graves's third book, is dedicated to the Royal Welch Fusiliers and contains some of the author's most memorable war poems. Higginson & Williams A3a; Reilly p. 146.
