About this Item: Walter Scott, London & New York, 1888. Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good Plus. No Jacket. First British Edition. We offer a nice copy of this rare and attractive title. It is not dated, but Yeats mentions the year 1888 at the end of his acknowledgements. The book is bound with an unusual decorative red cloth spine and plain red cloth corners with gilt titling to spine; it has ornamental paper sides and is all edge gilt. The author's name has been mispelled 'Yates' on the spine. The work comprises 326 pages including Notes and there is a 16-page section of publisher's advertisments at the end of the book. The volume is presented as published with title-page, dedication page, contents pages and Introduction by the author followed by a half-title before the start of the text. This copy is slightly worn and rubbed at head and tail of spine and along the edges of the boards. There is a small area of loss of the paper side on the bottom of the back board adjoining the decorative panel adjacent to the spine. The endpapers are just slightly foxed, but there is very little foxing throughout the text; small handwritten owner's name in faded black ink at head of title page. The book is otherwise in bright, clean condition for its age. Size: 16mo - over 5" - 6" tall. Seller Inventory # 001567
