About this Item: Bookhouse for Children, 1934. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Early edition, 1925-1928. A complete 7-volume set with red leatherette covers, a pictorial pastedown on each front cover, and gilt spine and cover titles. Copyright 1925-1928 in each volume. Each book complete, sound, good spines, no missing pages. The first three books are good, and more worn, with rubbed corners, some soiling and spotting on pages, vols 1 and 2 with scratched pastedowns, and vol 1 with crayon scribbles, tears, and tape first few pages. Vols 4-7 are very good, clean, square, and true, owner inscription inked on first leaf in vols 6 and 7. Overall quite a nice, early set, with numbers 17 and 19 on lower left of title pages indicating 17th and 19th printings. No dustjackets, as issued. Poetry, stories, and pictures from a gentler era. Up One Pair of Stairs (vol 2) 1927 has stories by Bayard Taylor, William Shakespeare, Walter de la Mare, William Wordsworth, Palmer Cox, Katharine Pyle and others. Throught Fairy Halls (vol 3) 1920 contains stories by La Fontaine, Jospeh Drake, Selma Lagerlof, Albert Paine, Emily Dickinson, and many others. The Treasure Chest (vol 4) 1920 has stories by Stewart White, Katherine Cather, Walter Thornbury, Robert Browning, Charles Dickens, Theodore Roosevelt and many others. From the Tower Window (vol 5) 1921 contains stories by Woodrow Wilson, Robert Burns, Alfred Tennyson, Ernest Thompson Seton, Geoffrey Chaucer, John Whittier, Joyce Kilmer and more.
