The book was the personal property of Maude Fanshawe, presented to her by her Uncle Elly Feb 28th 1927. Dedication o/p in black ink. Maude Fanshawe is related to Admiral Sir Edward Gennys Fanshawe, as I have a number of books from the estate. Unlike many of the other books, Maude has not signed her own name in the book - whether Uncle Telly is a Fanshawe, I do not know without further research. Condition: Boards very slight sunning front and back edges. Spine slightly dulled and titles gilt faded. Wear on top and bottom of spine + corners. Ghosting on e/ps. Blank page before half title page has been neatly cut down seam, whether this was at binding, or to remove something, I do not know. Cut and arranged to admit insertion of a family member. Green cloth boards. Red leather spine + seams. Gilt titles front + gilt line down red leather seam. 31.1 x 25cm. 32 pages. Main families covered: Pinfold, Leighton, Carwell, Dalrimple, Fanshawe, Birley, Hornby. There are a few other names but there is little follow on. Dates range from 1658-1900. There is a lot of info on 'Pedigree of Cardwell of Ellerbeck' + Fanshawe. I have a number of books belonging to the Fanshawe family for sale. The boxes are filled in by the same hand in neat, very clear period ink writing. Also with the Tablets, is a watercolour signed F Fanshawe of a European coastal region with fishing boat and fishermen, no date circa early 1900's. It is a white mount and framed in a cheap mock oak frame. Condition: Tablets: Red leather well rubbed + missing a strip down spine. Wear on corners. General small scratches front and back. Title page tanned + publisher label foxed. Blank e/p tanning. Internally clean, little wear, binding firm, good colour. Picture: glass needs a clean. Light foxing on sky + some parts of water.
