About this Item: Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1970. Condition: Fine in near-fine jacket. First edition. First printing of Dahl's subversive children's book about animals outwitting humans. The comment of Knowles & Malmkjaer that "Dahl allies himself with the child reader against the world of adults" feels very true for this book, which celebrates the clever Mr. Fox and his animal friends as they find increasingly elaborate solutions to the obstacles created by humans. As with most of Dahl's works, the undercurrent of violence in the animal's "game" of survival adds an edge to an otherwise whimsical tale - a formula that continues to earn the admiration of children and the consternation of adults. Inspiration for the Wes Andersen film of the same name. A nice copy. 9'' x 6.25''. Original full tan cloth, gilt-stamped vignette, green metallic-lettered spine. In original unclipped ($3.95) pictorial dust jacket with illustrated by Donna Lampell. Green endpapers. Illustrated by Donald Chaffin throughout in black and white. [8], 62, [2] pages. Light uniform toning to jacket with a couple spots and barely visible wrinkls, touch of edgewear to spine foot. Seller Inventory # 39365
