About this Item: Random House, New York, 1984. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition, First Printing. First Edition, first printing in clean unclipped dust jacket. Clean brown cloth boards with gold lettering on spine. No fading, bumping or wear. As new condition. Binding is tight and square, pages and edges are clean and bright. Clean endpapers - no names, writing or marks. Edited, with an Introduction and textual note, by James B. Meriwether. 73 pages. Clean dust jacket is unchipped, no wear, no tears, not price clipped. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. Not a fragment, not quite a finished work, probably written in 1926 by William Faulkner. Apparently it was the beginning of the novel of which it became an important part, "The Hamlet", which Faulkner finally completed for publication in 1940. A valuable element in the study and analysis of the stages of revision and restructuring a major work goes through before it is ultimately regarded by its author as finished.
