Good reading copy. Clean. No store stamps. --- --- Stanley Banks is just your ordinary suburban dad. He's the kind of guy who believes that weddings are simple affairs in which two people get married. But when daddy's little girl announces her engagement to Buckley, Mr. Banks feels like his life has been turned upside down. And any man with a daughter can appreciate Mr. Banks's feelings. . . . .To say the least, Mr. Banks isn't taking it well, and to make matters worse, he must host cocktail parties with the in-laws-to-be, initiate financial planning talks with Buckley, and moderate family conferences on who will be invited to the reception. . . . .Who can blame him when he sinks so low as to offer Kay $1500 to elope? . . . .But Mr. Banks holds his peace, and when the last wedding guest has departed from his confetti-matted house, he has his memories, and you have a merry record of his tribulations. . . About this Item: Simon & Schuster, New York, NY U.S.A., 1949. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Williams, Gluyas (illustrator). Book Club Edition. Edward Streeter (1891-1976) was a banker who was an author on the side. His written works were insightful into human nature - hilariously displayed through his wonderfully erudite dry wit. When coupled with Gluyas Williams (1888 ¿ 1982), a noted "The New Yorker" magazine cartoonist, you have a rememberable presentation of this classic story. Basis for at least two popular movie versions, the first being the 1950 film starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor, which was nominated for several Academy Awards, and the next the 1991 film starring Steve Martin and Diane Keaton. Timeless story of a father "caught-up" in his daughter's wedding. Hardcover has blue faux cloth boards with black lettering & designs, but no DJ. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Filled with B & W cartoons. A promo piece from the Book-of-the-Month Club, Inc. laid in. Copyrights 1948 (story), 1949 (illustrations). No edition/print-run info given. Stated this copy printed by Kingsport Press, Inc., Kingsport, Tennessee. Suspect BOMC edition with BOMC description laid in. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Seller Inventory # 006966
