About this Item: ZSI, Kolkata, 2004. Paperback. Condition: As New. New. Contents 1. Introduction. 2. History of excavation and terminology. 3. Age of the civilization. 4. Systematic account of animal remains. 5. Animal forms recovered from Lothal and their present state of distribution (table). 6. Discussion. 7. Summary. 8. Acknowledgements. 9. References. 10. Index. From the introduction The Indus Valley has been known to be the centre of one of the earliest civilization of the world ever since the discovery of Harappa and Mohenjodaro in 1921 22. Hardly any site of the Indus (Harappa) civilization was discovered within the present day Indian territory at the time of independence and partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947. The Archaeological Survey of India took up the task of exploring regions east of Indus Valley for finding out Harappan sites. The renewed excavation resulted in the discovery of at least forty Harappan sites in Saurashtra (in Gujarat) the most important among them being Lothal. The word Lothal in Gujarati formed by combining two words Loth and Thal (Sthal) means mound of dead. Interestingly the word Mohenjodaro; in Sindhi carries the same meaning. Lothal lies between two ranns or salt waters namely Rann of Cambay on the south and the little Rann of Kutch on the north with the Nal Lake in the centre. The ancient mound in a flat featureless alluvial lowland was situated on the northern margin of the boundary line separating Saragwala village from Laxmipura and was coming under the revenue jurisdiction of Saragwala administered by the Collectorate of Ahmedabad. 162 pp. Seller Inventory # 50954

About this Item: Condition: New. Publisher/Verlag: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing | The present investigation was taken up to assess the aquatic flora and fauna associated with artificial reef at Miyani estuary, Gujarat during the period November 2013 to April 2014. Two artificial reef structures were made by using locally available materials viz., bamboos, fishing net pieces and rubber. The structures were prepared measuring size of 1.5x1.5 m & 2.5x2.5m and were installed at proposed study area. The fortnightly sampling was done to collect the samples in artificial reef structure and natural habitat. A total of 46 species were recorded during the study period. A total 38 species recorded in natural habitat area and 8 species exclusively in artificial reef structure which were not recorded in natural habitat. It was observed that artificial reefs helped in increasing the estuarine biodiversity and conservation of estuarine biota. Therefore, artificial reefs have been found to enhance diversity primarily on local scales closely associated with the structures themselves. Artificial reefs may provide an important connection within an existing mosaic of habitats by creating new habitat, or supplementing degraded habitat. | Format: Paperback | Language/Sprache: english | 88 pp. Seller Inventory # K9783659975851

About this Item: Condition: New. Publisher/Verlag: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing | Impact on sediment characteristics, sediment heavy metals, epifauna, macrobenthos and meiobenthos | Veraval port was designed initially for 1,200 fishing trawlers but 2793 trawlers are being operated from this port making it the largest trawler port of Gujarat. This work highlights the possible impact of bottom trawling on the sediment characteristics, the sediment heavy metals, epifauna, macrobenthos and meiobenthos of commercial trawling grounds of Veraval coast. A single experimental trawling itself considerably reduced the organic matter content at all water depths. The epifaunal soft corals -Litophyton sp. & Studeriotes sp. and the gorgonians- Subergorgia suberosa & Juncella juncea were destroyed due to intense trawling. The increase in the abundance of macrofauna and meiofauna after trawling signifies that they are exposed during bottom trawling. The stress on biodiversity of macrofauna and meiofauna were more evident in lightly trawled areas (15-20 m water depth) than in heavily trawled areas (36-40 m water depth). This book will provide a major fillip to the studies on impact of bottom trawling on the benthic fauna along the coast of India. | Format: Paperback | Language/Sprache: english | 328 pp. Seller Inventory # K9786202061728

About this Item: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Aufl.. Language: English . Brand New Book. Veraval port was designed initially for 1,200 fishing trawlers but 2793 trawlers are being operated from this port making it the largest trawler port of Gujarat. About this Item: LAP Lambert Academic Publishing, 2017. Paperback. Condition: New. Aufl.. Language: English . Brand New Book. The present investigation was taken up to assess the aquatic flora and fauna associated with artificial reef at Miyani estuary, Gujarat during the period November 2013 to April 2014. Two artificial reef structures were made by using locally available materials viz., bamboos, fishing net pieces and rubber. The structures were prepared measuring size of 1.5x1.5 m 2.5x2.5m and were installed at proposed study area. Seller Inventory # KNV9783659975851
