  • 4to. TLS (on August Wilson letterhead), signed by August Wilson (and also signed by his assistant), discussing 'amateur licensing rights' for 'Joe Turner's Come and Gone' and for 'Fences' (while retaining 'all professional' productions for licensing). 4to. About the Licensing of Fences and Joe Turner's Come and Gone. Letter written by Wilson's assistant, signed by the assistant and by Wilson, and addressed to his publisher, French, which allows French to make all decisions about amateur productions of Joe Turner's Come and Gone, the second installement in his Pittsburgh Cycle tetralogy. The play also thanks French for his continued support of the most famous film from the Pittsburgh Cycle, Fences. Wilson (1945-2005), the award-winning African-American playwright, won the Pulitzer Prize (for Fences and for The Piano Lesson), the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award (for The Piano Lesson, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Seven Guitars and for Radio Golf), and the Drama Desk Award for best new play (for The Piano Lesson and for Fences). August Wilson correspondence is uncommon in the marketplace. The letter has a rubberstamped date, docketing receipt of the letter by Alleen Hussung; a near fine copy (folded for mailing) TLS (on August Wilson letterhead), signed by August Wilson (and also signed by his assistant), discussing 'amateur licensing rights' for 'Joe Turner's Come and Gone' and for 'Fences' (while retaining 'all professional' productions for licensing).
