About this Item: HATE CANTZ, 2016. First edition Originaleinband - Original wrappers. Die angegebenen Versandkosten gelten für Bücher bis 1000 Gramm. Bücher über 1000 Gramm kosten nach Deutschland EUR 4,50. In 1936, an American ornithologist named James Bond published the definitive taxonomy Birds of the West Indies. Ian Fleming, an active bird-watcher living in Jamaica, appropriated the name for his novel’s lead character. He found it "flat and colourless," a fitting choice for a character intended to be "anonymous. . . a blunt instrument in the hands of the government." In Field Guide to Birds of the West Indies, Taryn Simon (*1975) casts herself as James Bond (1900–1989) the ornithologist, and identifies, photographs, and classifies all the birds that appear within the twenty-four films of the James Bond franchise. The appearance of many of the birds was unplanned and virtually undetected, operating as background noise for whatever set they happened to fly into. Simon’s ornithological discoveries occupy a liminal space—confined within the fiction of the James Bond universe and yet wholly separate from it. This taxonomy of 331 birds is a precise consideration of a new nature found in an alternate reality. ++++++ MINT ! FINE ! VERLAGSFRISCH ! Sprache: Englisch. Seller Inventory # 61709BB

About this Item: The Macmillan Company. New York, 1947. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Bound in brown/rust cloth with black lettering. Spine is faded a half-tone lighter than the boards. Maps for endpapers. 257 pages. No DJ. Color frontispiece. Stated first printing. A guide to all the species of birds known from the Greater Antilles, Lesser Antilles and Bahama Islands. Line drawings by Earl Poole. The paper is ever-so-faintly toned from age, with a spot or two of foxing. Three pages were dog-eared, but have been unfolded now. Apart from being a very fine field guide, this title has the wonderful distinction of having been the major life work of James Bond, who lent his name to the British secret agent created by his good friend Ian Fleming. The book has been reprinted several times be several different publishers, a testament to its legitimacy as a field guide. This is the first edition, printed 6 years before the first 007 novel was published. Please email with questions or to request photos. Seller Inventory # Fred-Z107
