First edition. Inscribed first printing of this groundbreaking work by a psychologist and Islamic scholar, presenting an "integrated theory of personality development that takes into account a universal understanding of both humankind and culture" (Knabb and Welsh). A. Reza Arasteh based his practice on the blending of Western and Eastern modes of thought; he was "a pioneer in the field of integrative psychology," which sought to facilitate a "dialogue between psychology and religion" (Knabb and Welsh, 45). Arasteh inscribed this copy to Harold Searles, a pioneering force in psychiatric medicine, with a dire warning: "There is little future for psycho-analysis and social sciences unless, they all yield to Chapter Seven," a chapter which presents a "technique for developing fully-integrated individuals." 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original red cloth binding with gilt lettering. Original unclipped (unpriced) red and black pictorial dust jacket. 404 pages, including index. Inscribed by Arasteh, "For Harold Searles / with regards / Reza Arasteh / There is little future for psycho- / analysis and social sciences unless, / they all yield to Chapter Seven. / Reza. June 22, '66." Jacket with a line of soil to spine; light rippling and some offsetting to verso from previous moisture exposure. Binding with a touch of bumping to spine ends, faint water line to boards. Interior tight and clean. Very good plus in very good plus dust jacket.
