About this Item: Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1939. Cloth Over Boards. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Brown, Paul (illustrator). First Edition. This copy has corner bumping with fraying cloth, mostly lower corners. The spine section is worn and rubbed, light staining and some spotting of the covers. Cloth has frayed at the head and foot of the spine. Hinges and gutters are solid, some shadowing of the endpapers. Library marks and pocket reidue of front endpapers. Interior text has yellowed with age, clean and tight in binding. Complete but there are some tears. Black and white drawn illustrations. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Ex-Library. The Mascot by Paul Brown. This book is highly collectible and almost impossible to fine with a dust jacket. The book published in 1939 by Charles Scribner's Sons: New York/London is in very good condition. The book has some age toning. The only real flaws are corner bumping and slight wear at corners. The dust jacket is in fair condition. The front of jacket has chipping and edging at the top and top front corner. There is a two inch tear on the bottom and some faint writing of math problems in three areas of cover. The spine of the jacket has several chips missing and three tears. A woman named Marion Shotter owned a farm in a nearby town where she kept several ponies and would have pony rides for children. This farm was the inspiration for the book of the same title as well as its sequel, Pony School" (Biscotti, p. 16).[With 3 signed titles of Brown's classic equestrian work:] Thrills and Spills (1933); Hits and Misses (1935); Ups and Downs (1936).
