About this Item: Cornell University, 1920. Paperback. First edition (no additional printings listed) . Staplebound paperback, original covers, approximately 5 3/4 x 9 inches, pp 49-89, illustrated with black and white photographs. Very good. Covers lightly age tanned, creased, with a bit of foxing and a few drop marks, 1/2 inch chip off lower corner of front cover and first leaf, with a 1/2 inch tear at lower edge of spine, text lightly age yellowed, bit of rust on staples, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked. Curious period piece. The first portion consists of detailed instructions for making a fireless cooker out of a barrel, box or bucket, which was lined with asbestos (accompanying photo shows a woman cutting sheet asbestos without gloves or other safety gear) , packed with insulation, such as powdered asbestos, and then heated by a "radiator", i. E. , a heated stone, to slowly cook the food, followed by a brief section on a stove with an insulated oven, more extensive information on the then new fangled pressure cooker, and finally a cookbook section. Unusual, and harder to find. Cookbook; cook book; home economics; antiques; reference; hazardous materials; domestic arts. Seller Inventory # 38218
