About this Item: ReInk Books, 2017. Softcover. Condition: NEW. Reprinted from edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. This is NOT a retyped or an ocr'd reprint. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes then this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This print on demand book is printed on high quality acid-free paper. About this Item: New York: Harper & Brothers, 1839., 1839. Fifth edition (as stated upon title page). Pagination collates as complete but incorrectly sequenced probably by printer's error and paged as follows: [preliminary leaf of publisher's ads], [frontis leaf with tissue guard], [title/copyright leaf], i-iv, iii-vi, ix-xv, [blank], 9-688. Hardcover: H 22.25cm x L 14.25cm. Original full dark brown leather with dulled gilt tooling along board edges, spine minimally decorated with gilt bars and original black title label with bright gilt stamped lettering; boards and spine have a very polished luster and thus have likely been professionally treated in the recent past with a archival leather preservative; several patches of surface scuffing to leather upon rear board with narrow moisture stain along top 10cm of fore-edge, minor cosmetic wrinkles along spine with very light wear along front joint, light bumping to bottom corners of boards. Strong browning and foxing upon preliminary and terminal leaves; mild to occasionally moderate foxing upon interior leaves. Ownership signature dated 1844 upon frontispiece's blank recto and again upon title page. Very short closed tears at fore-edge margins of title page and several following leaves. Features a total of eight full page illustrations (including frontis) upon unpaged leaves all of which retain their tissue guards. First published in 1838, TRAVELS IN EUROPE was a popular mid-19th century account of European travels by Methodist revivalist minister Wilbur Fisk who served as the first President of Wesleyan University beginning in 1830. Still a quite handsome antiquarian volume. Seller Inventory # D17-9525
