First Edition, second impression, issued three months after the first printing, with the unclipped dust-jacket, designed by Edward Bawden. Brown cloth, gilt lettering to the spine dulled. Jacket chipped at foot of spine and well browned at backstrip and rear panel, but untorn. Text block slightly toned, especially at edges. The recipient is the potter and author Penelope Bennett, of Sydney Street, Chelsea, and Murdoch writes, "I'm so sorry I did not acknowledge the arrival of your novel. I have been abroad. I shall read it with interest - but I'm afraid not immediately as I have a great many jobs to do this summer". Book.
