1st ed. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, good condition (in good dustjacket), red boards, black & white photos, frontispiece, light foxing & toning reverse side jacket (edgewear, chipped), cover corners slightly bumped, water stains reverse side jacket & rear fore-edge book (slight red colour loss top edge), light foxing endpapers & flyleaves & title page, toned spots some pages, spine little faded, white background rear jacket little water stained & toned, light foxing book edges, pages lightly toned, rubber stamp, owner's name front pastedown. 238 pp. First edition. A biography of Australian novelist Arthur Upfield by his partner (but actually written by Upfield himself). Has a cheeky introduction by his fictional detective Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte. The book shadows the famous mystery writer step by step through his early footloose and fancy-free career. How he was persuaded to take up writing again, how he unwittingly provided a real murderer with a 'foolproof' method of disposing of a body. Who was the original on whom the character of Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte was based? A great book for a reader of his stories. (Rubber stamp: Jackson's Bega Newsagency.).
