About this Item: Scribners 1940, 1940. Condition: Good. A first US edition, first printing (with A on copyright page; in first state dust jacket), inscribed by Ernest Hemingway on title page to his friend (Cheveendo P.(?)), from San Francisco de Paula, Cuba in 1952. The book is in good condition with some rubbing and fading along spine an a circular stain on back cover - one previous owner's book plate on the front endpaper. The book comes with original first state dust jacket (unclipped with original $2.75 price), in good condition with some chipping. The book also comes with a printed sheet featuring a biography of Rudolph Block. The book is published by the Blackiston Company of Philadelphis with copyright marked as 1940 by Ernest hemingway, no other dates, with front end paper pasted to the inner binding with a small stamp MANCHETE 348, with the original dust jacket lightly chipped on the top and bottom of the spine, and on the edges with little loss and small pieces missing from the back cover photo of Hemingway on the typewriter, but his image is not affected. 410 pages, a nicely kept volume of this classic work and a remarkable association copy signed by one of the great authors of the 20 the century to one of the great sculptors of our time. Daubin (1824-1898)". First edition, first printing with Scribner's seal and "A" on the copyright, signifying a first printing. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1940. The book measures 6" x 9", 471 pages. With a second issue dust jacket with the photographer's credit present on the back panel. The jacket is in very good condition. Minor rubbing to the panels and spine with slight chipping to the spine edges. Tape repair made to the top right corner of the spine. The front flap is price-clipped. The book is in very good plus condition. Two small soiling spots to the boards with lightly scuffed edges. Sunned spine with worn label. The textblock is gently toned, clean, bright, unmarked, and complete. The binding is sound. A handsome copy of one of Hemingway's greatest novels, signed in his own hand.
