Like his better known work Fanny by Gaslight the novel is set in Victorian London and explores the underworld of Vice that existed in the city. A profoundly sad story of a disturbed and difficult woman with a history of abuse and neglect as a child, who manages to ruin the lives of all around her. Not for the faint-hearted! Ref B 4.
