Light fading to spine and onto covers, creasing to top edge, an excellent copy. Title page and text printed in blue and black, 3 black and white plates and an illustration to the text, all by Sendak. First edition, signed limited issue, number 293 of 326 copies signed by the translator and illustrator, 26 of which were not for sale. This story was first published by Madame D'Aulnoy in her collection of fairy tales, Les Contes des Fées, in 1697. Andrew Lang later included it in his Blue Fairy book in 1889.
