Book First Edition
xxxi, (36), 36 pp. Folio. Navy blue cloth binding. Gilt lettering on the spine. Gilt illustration of a ship on the cover. Edges trimmed. In an original dust jacket. Jacket has some tears at the tail of the front cover. Internally, as new. Forty full page colour illustrations. Has two ribbon bookmarks. With a preface by Landsborough Thomson and an introduction by P. J. P. Whitehead, this book explores the work created by the artists and naturalists who accompanied Cook on his three voyages in the Pacific. The talent included Alexander Buchan and Sydney Parkinson (1745 - 1771), whose abilites brought him to the attention of Joseph Banks. Whitehead introduces the fish drawings, and explores what happened to the fish specimens collected on the voyages. The text is accompanied by forty full page illustrations from the artists, in colour. This seems to be quite a scarce title, with only one other volume available at the time of this cataloguing. Please note that this volume is oversized and very heavy. Additional shipping charges will apply.
